Day 1 Monday 19th June 2023

The carried kit. Details and weights here.

Up at 6am for public transport to Kemble, took 5.5 hours. The usual rushing to get a connecting train on far platform, then hours of sitting down.

First evidence as I exited Kemble train station. Excited and apprehensive.
That way I guess.
Though dry today this is the official source of our longest river.

I poured a little of my drinking water over the rocks as a symbolic contribution to the flow.

First sign of water two fields down. In the corner of a field is water bubbling from a borehole,
which soon turns into a ditch
of reeds.
On day one already too wide to jump over.
Unexpected peril!
For a while it’s surrounded by old gravel quarry pits. No fun allowed here ☹️
