Day 1 continues

Crystal clear water flowing
through lush green countryside.
Full of life.

The first of many lily pads. No frog seen sat on a leaf though.
Good to see these things being pointed out, though I’m sad it’s a miniscule pocket of our land.
That’s lovely.
Wait what, there’s Thames Trail Ale on the Liquid Highway? Luckily it’s the same route. Phew!

Surrounded by caravans on first night.

Today turned out to be a longer day than expected due to my poor planning. First there was the walk from the station to the source, and then the campsite was on the opposite side of the river – 20ft turned into 2 additional miles. These added 4 miles to the day.
I was tired from the early start, sore from falling over 3 times and twisting my ankle on rockhard bumpy ground hidden beneath long grass. A bit of type 2 fun to start the hike!
On balance a shorter first day wouldve been prudent.

Carried for 4 k from last shop. Worth it though – I needed cheering up.
My accommodation. Glad I chose the two person tent meaning everything is inboard.
An overused calf muscle on first day. 30 k had reminded me of the plantar fasciitis on left side. I hope this goes away. Lots of stretching tonight.
Meanwhile at home the cats have taken over the bed.

I feel asleep in my tent to the sound of cuckoos.
