Day 5 Friday 23rd June 2023

Feeling the grind as I continue to crush miles I take a welcome coffee break in Abingdon town square. Why on earth would you take coffee at a chain when there are plenty of excellent independent coffee shops? This is Java and Co who were lovely people allowing me to recharge my phone.
While nature reclaims the signposts,
next door commercial barley ripens in the sun.
Abingdon Lock has an enterprising lockkeeper,
who really wants me to buy an ice cream. 3 signs offering encouragement. For some perverse reason I desist.
Heron hunting in a man made inlet, to bring some nature back. Seems to be having desired effect.
Fish predating each other. In the shallows closest to me are minnows being hunted by mini fish in the middle. At the top in deeper waters are the 6 inchers waiting to pounce. Overhead Demoiselles flutter.
Laundry at Wallingford.
Not the best evening meal,
and I should’ve had butterscotch flavour I’m told.

Something doesn’t feel right in my feet. I’ve worn my footwear for 300 miles before starting this hike. Why now?
