Day 9 Tuesday 27th June 2023

Another engineering feat is this railway bridge in Maidenhead,
which a friendly rower out for the early morning row told me was built by Brunel.
Told is was too wide and shallow and made of bricks it wouldn’t stay up, he proved them wrong as it still carries trains day.
Known locally as the Sounding Bridge.
Next bridge is ugly, carrying the M4 motorway.
But the underside offers some pleasing symmetry on a calm day.
Garden pod. I’m sure I’ve seen these for sale in John Lewis department store.
Another bench for the inevitable blister inspection has this church nearby,
that unusually has a path right through it.
Great beams inside.
Behind the motor homes of a dog show, I spy the biggest residence so far – Windsor Castle. I could’ve got closer but you guessed it-my feet were killing me and I couldn’t imagine stepping off the trail.

Pacing through the hugely important historic Runnymede I omitted to take any photos. It’ll still be there next time!

Another fugly bridge carrying the M25 motorway.
A certain elegance in the concrete underside.
A view of
Staines, which I really didn’t like. Maybe it was the foot pain, maybe it was the grey clouds. I dunno.

I didn’t know the significance of this sign until tomorrow. I was in so much pain I caught a taxi from here for the final 4 k of the day to Chertsey campsite. It was a day mainly of type 2 fun due to feet pain.

That night I caught up with Dave who was based nearby for work. I’d been fantasising about salad and chicken for two days. The pub delivered!
And chips!

Cheeky campsite charged me £3 to charge my phone. Daylight robbers!
