SWCP day 27

Up at 0600. The weather people have caught up with reality- yesterday’s mist is now forecast until Tuesday. Which is forecast sunny-yay! My handwashing laundry despite a £1 in the tumble dryer is still damp. Guess I gotta carry it wet until tomorrow.

On a Fb group I’d asked a few days go who was still thruhiking clockwise. Only one reply. It’s getting quieter my way. Anti-clockers still passing through.

Tiny abandoned birds nest blown into the road.
Grey beyond my immediate surroundings. The photo belies how wet the grass is. My feet are soaked!

The Lizard foghorn sounded through the night

A friendly camper suggested camping in one location on Lands End peninsula then fast packing around the rim then using the Coaster bus to ‘spoke’ to and from the tent. I like that idea!

One of yesterday’s diversions could’ve been avoided if I was willing to enter someone’s property. Other walkers report doing so, though I decided not to, to respect someone’s requested privacy.

Yesterday’s 10p apple was delicious.

I wish I’d stood there.

What I have learnt

  • Take photos – you won’t see it again. I missed the sign for the wonderfully named “Sugary Green” and the information board telling why Labrador Bay’s name came from a French phrase.
  • I like my tent – pitch it high, remove inner and pack dry.
  • Licking your glasses clear is a thing when everything else is wet. The inner face is salty.

Cadgwith is a lovely hamlet right on the shingle beach where fishing is still at the heart, not tourism.

Sadly their loss of life at sea was the catalyst for the Coast Watch Institute.

The cloud lifts for a while.
And stays up for a few hours.
Coming up to the southern tip.
Lighthouse fog horns.
You can’t get more southerly than this.
At Kynance Cove the cloud descends again.
Moody.
The biggest fairy ring I’ve ever seen. Note both of walking poles for scale, and the difference in plants growing within.

I trudge cold and wet into camp. I scoff my food, wake in the night and finish the emergency nut supply and part of tomorrow’s breaky. I’m losing weight.

Unexpected heavy prolonged rain overnight wakes me several times during which I have negative thoughts- I’m feeling pretty miserable.
