16th June

Sounds of the trail I’ve heard over last 7 weeks:-

  • Frog chorus when camping by a creek
  • Wild cats hissing and screaming at night
  • Woodpeckers hammering.
  • Hummingbirds thrumming around you attracted by your colours
  • Chipmunks squeaking
  • High-pitched Chip, chip of marmots.

Too late start today while I waited for my shared lift back to trail from Lone Pone. The perceived 9am start turned into 11am. This caused problems later on. 20 miles done hiking into the night until 9pm.

Moon shadow at 9pm

I set up my tent on a stone slab using rocks to peg it out. I was dehydrated, very tired and hungry. 2 creek crossings today – 1 on boulders and logs, other forded a sandy bottom in bare feet by moonlight.

Golden trout tickled my feet.
