  • SWCP day 3

Lesson learnt today – pigeons will always win. Last night my allocated camp spot was under a tree. There was evidence of poop on part of the pitch. No problem, I’ll use the other half. You can see where this is going! Woke during to night to ‘things’ falling on the tent. The morning revealed Continue reading

  • SWCP day 2

Swanage is lovely. Nice shops and people nestled away from urban Bournemouth. Gently sloping waters fine for swimming and a fishing community. I’d like to revisit for a few days holiday. Some fine local walks for tourists. Learning a lesson from previous long distance hikes I’ve been looking after my feet better from the off. Continue reading

  • SWCP day 1

Enjoyed my first foot rest after 4 hours, 13k from Bournemouth. Quite poor visibility from Old Harry. Poole and Sandbanks visible, with Bournemouth faded out and no sign of Isle of Wight. • SWCP day minus a half

I started travelling today, though the walk proper kicks off tomorrow. Lisa delivered to me to sleepy Yatton train station. I’m sure she wanted to make sure I was actually going to be away for the next five weeks or so. 😘 Yatton to Bristol Temple Meads, change for Southampton, finally change for Bournemouth. Though Continue reading

Gotta manage away that do-I-have-enough-gear anxiety! https://lighterpack.com/r/26qo6o Thank you Royal Mail who delivered the SWCPA Reverse Guide book in record time. Ordered Thursday, posted Friday, it arrived this morning. Continue reading

  • SWCP day minus 2

I’ve got pre-walk nerves! Excitement and anticipation. At least the weather is looking good for next 10 days. Kit is finalised https://lighterpack.com/r/26qo6oI wanted it to be lighter than the Thames Path kit – https://lighterpack.com/r/elkaod – which it is but only marginally. Though I’ve managed to include a pillow, cat hole system, doubling of battery size plus Continue reading

  • My background & why the Thames Path National Trail

Thames Path National Trail Some background first. In 2022 at 55 having found I had a lot of time on my hands I was scouting around for a new hobby. Working in an office environment for decades had given me the usual musculoskeletal issues – lower back pain, minor RSI, poor posture. My parents had instilled Continue reading
