SWCP day 7

Lesson for today – don’t wait for a breaky place to be open when they say so. Walk on to the next one and get some time back.

Best dog name so far. Overheard an owner shoing one of their Dalmatians out of an open doorway “Rodney Trotter out”.

Nice walking up west flank of Portland. Easy open moor paths and great views west. I can see Golden Cap among the patchwork of fields. Tonight’s campsite is along there somewhere, 29kms away.

The signposted diversion through the quarry is well worth it.

Glad I’m not a smuggler.
Comfy and warmed by the sunshine but I’m not carrying it.

But the diversion down the A354 not so much.

Brunch stop with friendly people sharing a table. Learnt a bit about bouldering which they were visiting for, then had a hilarious conversation about Body Glide and where to use it.

Fascinating stuff.

Portland is a mixed bag. I’m glad I did it, but there was too much pavement.

I headed back into Weymouth to post home some stuff I didn’t need. It was a mega detour which derailed my plans to get past Abbotsbury tonight. I bailed after 28km at 5pm with at least another 15km to go when a campsite hoved into my sight line. At £27 it was way above what I intended but needs must.

It had a bar! Cheers!

  1. £27 to camp? I hope they put your tent up for you, and washed/dried/ironed your clothes, and a 3-course dinner with wine? I must be getting old!

  2. Stayed in a ruined castle in the alps for 30e the other week. Hope your view was as good!
