10×10

After delivering fam and friends to local airport at 4am, I decided to experience 10×10, which is the practice of hiking 10 miles by 10am.

The aim on the PCT is to arise at 5am and be on the trail at 6am to give best chance of getting half the days hiking completed early in the morning.

Weather was good at 4-15C with sunshine and little breeze – ideal conditions.

Easily done.

I’d missed the inauguration two weeks prior, so it was good to pop along when I could.
Who needs a gate when you have a spare digger?
Bagpuss snoozing in the warm cab.
Shaggy sheep enjoying a back scratch from a fallen tree.
Glider coming into land at local club.
Insert your own joke here!
Local quarry from a great view spot on a public footpath.
Wild ponies on the open access land.

While walking I received this email:-

This gave my day a boost. I decided to stay out for 10 hours, managed 25 miles over 8.5 hours of walking with 90 minutes of rest stops. It was great to be out all day coddiwompling.

5 weeks doesn’t seem a lot given the list of jobs I’ve given myself. Keeping busy stops me daydreaming about the PCT!
