19th June

Up and over Forester Pass.

Very little snow on way up, steep mountain side.
Extremely steep – see the 3 peeps going up on the switchbacks. I couldn’t do those going down – more on that later.
Hit top at 11.30am. Highest point on the PCT.
Extensive slushy snowfield on way down.

Used microspikes for 15 minutes to get to rock again. Ice axe not drawn – the snow was so slushy there was no crust for it to dig into if I fell and slid down. Hands and feet would’ve been enough to arrest my slide.

Pink snow! Bacteria cause this. Water collected from snow melt must be treated, otherwise you’ll get D&V.
Beautiful scenery – this is the High Sierra!

Videos of Beans and SnackDaddy crossing the log. I forded the creek!

Beans, SnackDaddy and I.
Helpful advice from the ranger.
